We are a little behind on getting this reveal to the blog, so if you need a refresher check out this post here. We officially finished up the #thefarmhouseproject in September after installing the beautiful, custom cabinetry pieces and we are so excited to share the final bathroom and mudroom reveal.
As mentioned in the previous post (the link above), this project was a serious labor of love. It also just happened to be the first project where our clients loved everything about the initial design and had NO NOTES.
We incorporated colors that are already sprinkled throughout the home, leaned on vintage inspirations, and used her dream flooring... brick!
Before Construction
How It Started
Our clients came to us initially because they had a space they didn't use right when they walked in their home, and they didn't like it.
They had this large open area, a closet they didn't use much, and a small half bath off the side. They moved their laundry upstairs, so they didn't want to have the hookups there anymore.
We got the dimensions of the entire room and I went to work playing around with some layouts. Since the only other bathroom was upstairs, and you had to go through their room to get to it, we decided to make a full bath for future kids and guests to use.
We also wanted an organized drop zone when you came in the door for obvious reasons, so we included a custom cabinet piece that matched the color of their kitchen cabinets.
After they signed off on the plans, we got to work. We tore out all the sheet rock and flooring. We found some structural issues that needed to be fixed, fixed them, then started putting it all back together.
The Bathroom
The first thing we decided on was this flooring. They already have greens throughout the home, so I wanted to bring that color into the bathroom in a unique way. We decided to go with a flower pattern because it reminded us of the vintage flooring you find in downtown buildings and thought it would go perfect with their 1900s farmhouse.
They also happen to have a navy accent wall in their living room, so we brought that color in as well. Funny enough, this wasn't our first pick. But as we were texting about it we were like, "What about the navy?", and ended up loving it when we added it to the mood board.
We loved the gold accents with the navy, but the main metal in the home is matte black. So we brought in the black with the lights, towel hardware, and shower curtain rod.
To add in a farmhouse classic, we went with larger subway tile in the shower. This shower is 9' tall, so we figured the bigger tile would look less busy than traditional 3x6 subway since we wanted the floor to be the focal point.
The Bathroom Cabinetry
Since we didn't have a spot for a linen closet, we decided to create a custom cabinetry piece that could hold towels AND dirty laundry. The lower door hides a laundry basket in order to not only hide dirty clothes, but also save on floor space.
The Mudroom
One thing our client really wanted in her kitchen when they were renovating was brick flooring. However, they didn't end up doing it. So I knew I wanted to incorporate that into this renovation. We also went with a herringbone inlay, because we are a lover for the details.
Before the renovations took place, I noticed they had a little furniture piece that was their catchall. I kept that in mind as I was thinking about the floor plan and knew I wanted there to be a more permanent piece for them to drop their things off at when they came in the door.
The Mudroom Cabinetry
The main attraction, other than the flooring, is the 9' tall custom cabinetry piece so they could drop their stuff and keep it organized. We matched the bench top to the other woods in the home and color matched their kitchen cabinets so it would blend seamlessly.
Overall we are super happy with how this new area flows with the rest of the home and how it doesn't feel so new.
